The man accused of shooting a store clerk during an armed robbery in Leesburg was arrested Wednesday, police said.

Leesburg police said the suspect, 25-year-old Alex Lopez of Wildwood, was arrested in Kissimmee by the FDLE Crime Task Force.

The incident occurred on May 30 after Lopez entered a Leesburg supermarket and opened fire on the store clerk.

When officers arrived at the store, they found the clerk, identified as 51-year-old Raied “Ray” Shihadeh, lying unconscious on the floor with what appeared to be at least one gunshot wound.

Shihadeh was flown by helicopter to Ocala Regional Hospital, where he died overnight, police said.

Leesburg Police had issued a warrant for Lopez’s arrest for premeditated murder/death, armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and use/possession of a firearm during a felony.
