Report: Rockets seek trade for KD, Booker or other ‘major upgrade’

Report: Rockets seeking trade for KD, Booker or other ‘major upgrade’ originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Houston seems to be a problem.

The Rockets reportedly want to trade for Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Monday, citing sources.

Shortly after the report, Wojnarowski added that the Suns don’t want to part with Durant because they want to give their core another year after a first-round exit in the NBA playoffs as a No. 6 seed.

Nonetheless, the Rockets want a “major upgrade” to the roster, with Wojnarowski mentioning that they are in a prime position to push for fellow Phoenix star Devin Booker.

Houston’s ambitions became known after would have traded picks with the Brooklyn Nets, which saw the franchise land Phoenix-related picks.

Once the deals are official, Houston will own a trade pick with the Suns in 2025, the Suns’ first-round pick in 2027 and could also own Phoenix’s pick in 2029 depending on contingencies.

If the Suns pulled out of the Durant, Booker and Bradley Beal experiment early, Houston would have the ability to help Phoenix reclaim its barren cabinet of draft picks.

Houston is led by youngsters Alperen Sengun, Jalen Green and Jabari Smith Jr., with Tari Eason, Cam Whitmore and Amen Thompson also on the rise.

Veterans Fred VanVleet, Dillon Brooks, Steven Adams and Jeff Green have significant salaries to use in trades, even if it doesn’t involve bringing in a star from Phoenix the other way.
