Temple student killed in apparent domestic violence incident in North Philadelphia, police say

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A 20-year-old woman was killed in a domestic incident in North Philadelphia early Saturday morning, police said.

According to police, officers found Milan Jones, a Temple University student, when they responded to a call about a medical emergency at 1400 Willington Street just after 4 a.m. Saturday. She showed apparent signs of blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterward, police said.

The investigation “indicates that this was a domestic homicide,” police said.

Tymir Lackey, 21, of Philadelphia, was charged with Jones’ murder and related offenses, according to police.

A statement from Temple University administration said Jones will begin her third year as a nursing student at the school in the fall. “The loss of this promising young woman is a tragedy that will deeply affect her fellow students as well as our faculty and staff,” the statement said.

“She enjoyed helping and caring for others and her decision to pursue a career as a nurse reflects just that. There is no doubt that she had a very bright future ahead of her, which makes it particularly difficult to deliver this news,” the statement said.

Temple confirmed in the statement that Lackey was also a student at the school and was immediately suspended.

The investigation is being led by the Philadelphia Police Department and assisted by Temple police, they said.
