When is the NFL schedule released?

The Bills’ schedule for next season won’t be released until next Wednesday, but that doesn’t mean we’re completely in the dark about what’s to come.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — It’s not quite a national paid holiday, but for football fans, it’s close.

The NFL schedule is set to be released next Wednesday, May 15, and many questions will soon be answered. Against whom will the bills be opened? When is the week off? What games will be in prime time?

We’ll know all this soon enough. For now, let’s break down what we know.

Opponents of the bills

The Bills will host eight teams at Highmark Stadium: Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and the New York Jets.

Their nine road games include: Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins, New York Patriots England and the New York Jets.

2 Christmas games on a Wednesday

The NFL announced at its annual meeting in Orlando, Fla., in March that there would be two Christmas games this season. While this isn’t normally an issue, the holiday falls on a Wednesday this year, meaning the league had to get creative with how it plans to present this Christmas gift to fans. These teams would likely play a Saturday game the week before.

4 matches in Europe

The Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars will host regular season games in London, and the Carolina Panthers will play in Munich, Germany. We know the Bills won’t play any road games this season.

A game in Brazil

For the first time since 1970, the NFL will play on a Friday night during its opening weekend, and it will take place in South America. The Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers will play their Week 1 game in Sao Paulo on September 6, and it will stream exclusively on Peacock, outside of the Eagles and Packers home markets.

A Thursday evening departure in Kansas City

There’s no rule that says the NFL will open a new season with the defending Super Bowl champions, but it tends to happen year after year. So yes, you can probably plan on watching the Chiefs kick off a new season in Kansas City. This game won’t feature Buffalo, which will host the Chiefs — and perhaps Taylor Swift — at Orchard Park.
