An 85-year-old Monte Alto woman died Friday after being attacked by her dogs, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s office officials responded to a residence in the 22,000 block of Jesus Flores Road around 6 p.m. Friday, where they found a woman bleeding from her neck and the left side of her head, a news release said.

The unidentified woman succumbed to her injuries after being taken to hospital, the press release said.

A relative of the woman told officers that the victim had gone outside to feed his dogs when they attacked her.

“He tried to lure the dogs away from her, but the dogs tried to attack him,” the press release said. “He shot one of the dogs with a shotgun and the other dog ran away.”

Sheriff’s office investigators are working with animal control to locate the second dog involved in the incident.
