Lagos police arrest syndicate over alleged gang rape of teenager

Lagos State Police operatives attached to Ejigbo Division have arrested a syndicate over the alleged gang rape of a teenage girl in the area.

The four suspects were arrested on February 16 at around 10 p.m.

The victim’s mother, Tawa Abbey, who lives near Mafo Bus Stop, Idimu Road, Ejigbo, and reported the incident to investigators, stated that her daughter (name withheld) went to buy groceries at Lafenwa Street, Ejigbo when she was attacked by a group of boys with a dangerous weapon, threatened with murder and raped in a room at 33, Alhaji Obe Street, Ejigbo.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi: “The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ejigbo Division dispatched his officers to the scene where four of the boys – Jimoh Kamoru, 16; Lukman Basit, 16; Aleshinloye Sunday, 16 and Ifeoluwa Alabi, 16 – were arrested.

“Among other things, cutlasses and substances suspected to be cannabis were seized from them.

“The Commissioner of Police, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the DPO to pursue the fleeing members of the group and intensify efforts to rid Ejigbo area of ​​bad guys who love to attack, rape and inflict pain on innocent women.

“Odumosu reiterated the Command’s zeal to collaborate with other government agencies and stakeholders in the fight against all forms of societal vices, particularly rape, defilement and domestic violence.

“Odumosu also ordered that the case be transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba, for discreet investigation and prosecution while ensuring justice to the public in this case.”
