Death of Connecticut couple ruled a murder-suicide: State Police

VOLUNTOWN, CT — The couple police found dead in a Voluntown home committed a murder-suicide, according to state police.

State police responded to Hell Hollow Road after receiving a 911 call at 11:30 a.m. The woman who called reported an emergency at the address and apologized before ending the call, according to reports.

When police arrived, they found a man’s body in the driveway of the house.

Police attempted to contact the woman believed to be inside the home and then sent a drone inside. Police were able to see a woman in the stairwell who was unresponsive and was also pronounced dead.

The state’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the 69-year-old man’s death a homicide by gunshot wound. The 65-year-old woman’s death was ruled a suicide by self-inflicted gunshot wound. State police said the two were a married couple.

Police have seized the weapon used in the crime as evidence.

The investigations are still ongoing.
