Justin Timberlake was arrested in the Hamptons early Tuesday and faces drunken driving charges, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to Yahoo Entertainment. The singer reportedly told police he had “a martini.”

The “SexyBack” singer was arraigned and released without bail. A spokesperson for Timberlake has not yet responded to Yahoo Entertainment’s request for comment.

🚨 What just happened

On Tuesday, Sag Harbor Police released an official statement providing details about Timberlake’s arrest just hours earlier.

At 12:37 a.m., the musician was driving a BMW when police officers observed him “failing to stop at a properly posted stop sign and failing to maintain his lane.”

“A police officer with the Sag Harbor Village Police Department initiated a traffic stop and upon investigation, it was determined that Mr. Timberlake was operating his vehicle while intoxicated,” the statement said. The “No Angels” singer was “detained, processed and held overnight pending arraignment in the morning.”

Timberlake was arraigned at 9:30 a.m. in Sag Harbor Village Court.

A spokesman for the prosecutor’s office also confirmed to Yahoo that Timberlake was arrested “for drunk driving.”

“He was arraigned in Sag Harbor Village Court and released on bail. We have no further comment at this time,” a prosecutor’s office spokesman said in a statement.

According to People, Timberlake was dining at the American Hotel on Monday night. He was on his way to a friend’s house when he was stopped. He was handcuffed for the hearing, according to the newspaper. He was released on bail. His next court date is July 26.

Attorney Ed Burke, who represents the singer, told Us Weekly: “The indictment consists of a single count of refusing to take a breathalyzer test.”

Mr Timberlake was also charged with two other violations: failing to obey a stop sign and failing to drive in the correct lane,” he added.

When contacted by Yahoo, Burke declined to comment.

Timberlake was photographed leaving court wearing jeans, a printed T-shirt, a short-sleeved button-down shirt and a cap. He was accompanied by his lawyer and two other people, according to People. The newspaper noted that his wife, Jessica Biel, was not present.

➡️ What we know

According to the criminal complaint obtained by NBC News, Timberlake told arresting officers that he had “a martini” and was “following friends home.”

Sag Harbor Village Police Officer Michael Arkinson wrote in his report that it was “determined” that Timberlake was driving the BMW “in an intoxicated state” because his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Arkinson claimed that “Timberlake’s breath emitted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.”

The singer allegedly “spoke slowly, was unsteady on his feet and performed poorly on all standardized sobriety tests.”
