Four Malaysian passengers attacked in Coimbatore; four, including a soldier, arrested – KERALA – CRIME

KOCHI: Four Malaysian car passengers were attacked on the Salem-Kochi highway. The youths from Pattimattom in Ernakulam were attacked on the Kochi-Salem highway near Coimbatore. The masked attackers came in three cars, smashed the car in which the youths were travelling and then tried to steal it. The attack was on Aslam Siddique, Charles Reji and two others. The youths posted the pictures of the attack.

They were attacked near the L&T bypass road below Madhukkarai station in Coimbatore. The youths were returning from Bengaluru where they had bought computers for their company. They were attacked when they stopped the car at a red light. They claimed to have fled at high speed. They later lodged a complaint at the check post and at the Madhukkarai police station. The images of the attack were captured by the car’s dashboard camera.

Madhukkarai police station arrested Sivadas (29), Ramesh Babu (27) from Chittoor in Palakkad, Vishnu (28) from Kunnathupalayam and Ajay Kumar (24) from Mallappally. They were arrested recently from Palakkad. The accused have been remanded in judicial custody. Other accused are absconding.

Vishnu, one of the accused, is a soldier in the Madras Regiment. He came home on April 4 for leave. In the meantime, he joined them to commit the theft. According to initial reports, the ambushed people were mistaken for people who had come with hawala money. Two cars bearing the numbers KL-47-D-6036 and KL-42-S-3960 were seized.
