The TBI shares the warning signs of a cryptocurrency scam to prevent you from becoming the next victim.

According to TBI, scammers demand cryptocurrencies because the transactions are irreversible.

According to TBI, it’s important to know the warning signs to protect not only yourself, but all Tennesseans. According to TBI, stolen money is harder to recover and strengthens criminal enterprises, putting more people at risk.

The TBI released the following cryptocurrency scam warning signs:

  • Have you been told that you have a computer virus or other problem with your computer and that you need to send cryptocurrency to fix it?
  • Have you been told that you have won a prize or raffle but that you need to send cryptocurrency to receive it?
  • Is someone blackmailing you by claiming to have compromising information such as photos or videos and demanding that you send cryptocurrency?
  • Are you in a relationship with someone you’ve never met who is asking you to send cryptocurrencies?
  • Has anyone promised big financial gains by investing in cryptocurrency?
  • Has someone claiming to represent a government agency or law enforcement agency called and asked you to send cryptocurrency to fulfill a warrant or fine, or to post bail for a relative in jail or prison?
  • Are you on the phone with someone you don’t know who is telling you how and where to send cryptocurrencies?
