Strike by workers at New Holland tractor factory in Essex is suspended

The wage strikes of more than 500 workers at the New Holland tractor plant in Basildon were called off after a new wage offer.

The Unite union, which represents the employees, said earlier this month that the strike was due to the engineering company’s “broken wage promises”.

During May, the plant’s workers went on a total of ten days of strike, which affected tractor production.

However, in an update released on Thursday (June 13), the union said new strikes had been suspended to give workers the opportunity to vote on a new wage offer.

This means that the industrial action planned for 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 June will now no longer take place.

If the offer is rejected by members, Unite confirmed that it would call for strike action again.

Unite regional representative Michelle Cook said: “As a sign of goodwill, Unite has suspended strike action at CNH to give workers the opportunity to vote on the new offer.

“If the offer is rejected, industrial action will resume until an acceptable offer is presented.”
