Image description, Siyabonga Dunga had already been convicted of the attack in a court case earlier this year.

A man who drugged, kidnapped and raped a woman he met in a bar has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Siyabonga Dunga drugged his victim’s drink and then dragged her to his hotel room in Leeds before attacking her on January 21, 2023.

Dunga, 39, was sentenced for the attack at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday and was told he must sign the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Dunga, of Sweet Street, Leeds, was described by police as a “dangerous and calculating sex offender”.

The court was told that Dunga had given the woman a drink in the Back Room Bar in Call Lane in the early hours of the morning and that she became disorientated and confused shortly afterwards.

Under the pretense of coming to her aid, he took his victim outside to get some fresh air and sent her friend back to the club, telling her that the woman had left her phone inside.

However, he had plugged the phone in himself.

While the friend searched for the phone inside, Dunga took the woman, who could not walk without help, back to a nearby hotel.

The hotel’s security camera showed the woman collapsing and unresponsive while Dunga dragged her into his room where he raped her.

Investigating officer Det Con Andy Jones of the British Transport Police said: “Dunga is a dangerous and calculating sex offender who is thankfully now off the streets.

“By her own admission, the woman is only a shadow of her former self.”

He said he praised her “courage and strength” during the investigation.

In a trial earlier this year, Dunga was found guilty of rape, kidnapping, intentional administration of a substance and committing an offence with the intent to commit a sexual offence.
