Man allegedly ran towards police officers with knives during SWAT operation

A man armed with multiple knives ran toward officers during a standoff Tuesday in Harrison Township. At around 1:30 a.m., authorities were attempting to execute a shelter-in-place order at a home on Linden Street when they were confronted by a 47-year-old man. The man, who reportedly had a knife on him at the time, barricaded himself inside the home. Negotiators with the Allegheny County Police Department were called to assist the Harrison Township Police Department. During negotiations, authorities say, officers encountered the man inside the home, who had multiple knives on him. After that encounter, the man reportedly retreated to a bedroom and a SWAT team was called. Further negotiations were attempted before the SWAT team deployed an irritant inside the home, causing the man to step outside. He then ran toward them with his knives, according to authorities. Authorities say they used beanbag rounds and a taser to eventually arrest the man. He was taken to hospital for examination and is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting state authority.

The man, who allegedly had a knife with him at the time, barricaded himself in the house.

Negotiators from the Allegheny County Police Department were called in to assist the Harrison Township Police Department.

According to authorities, officers encountered the man with several knives during negotiations in the house. After this encounter, the man is said to have retreated to a bedroom and a SWAT team was called.

Further attempts at negotiation were made before the SWAT team deployed a stimulant in the house, causing the man to leave the house.

Authorities say he then ran toward them with his knives. Authorities said they used beanbag rounds and a taser to eventually arrest the man.

He was taken to hospital for examination and is accused of grievous bodily harm to a police officer and resisting state authority.
