Counting of local elections will continue this morning after most of the 949 seats are filled.

Recounts have been ordered in some areas, but it is hoped that all council seats will be filled by this evening.

Counting will resume in Meath later this morning after being suspended last night.

In Louth, however, the counting has already ended after lasting all night at County Hall in Dundalk.

After 7:30 a.m. a result was announced for the Drogheda Urban local constituency.

Accordingly, Fine Gael newcomer Ejiro O’Hare Stratton will be elected, while Labour’s Emma Cutlip will lose her seat.

Shortly before, Fianna Fáil newcomer Shane McGuinness and Marianne Butler of the Green Party occupied the last two seats in the Dundalk South LEA.

There are no changes in the representation of the local constituency of Ardee after the result was announced at around 3am, although Fine Gael newcomer Rachel Kerley was in the running for the final seat.

In the Dundalk Carlingford area there are two new city councillors – Independent Ciarán Fisher and Fiona Mic Conchoille of Sinn Féin, Conor Keelan of Fianna Fáil lost his seat and Edel Corrigan of Sinn Féin is not running for re-election.

The results up to yesterday evening are available here.
