Police charge second teenager with armed robbery in Wilmette

A second teenager has been charged in the armed robbery of a Wilmette jogger on May 4.

On June 6, authorities charged an 18-year-old Skokie man for his involvement in the crime, accusing him of armed robbery and aggravated false imprisonment.

The charges came about three weeks after the first arrest in connection with the May 4 attack. On May 14, Wilmette police arrested an 18-year-old Chicago man and charged him with armed robbery and unlawful use of a weapon.

At the time of the attack, police say the victim was jogging near Beechwood and Hunter Avenue in Wilmette around 9 a.m. when a person pointed a gun at her and demanded her cellphone. Police say the suspect then got into a car and fled the scene. The victim’s cellphone was later found by Chicago police.

During their investigation into the incident, police were also able to identify a vehicle they believe was involved in the crime. Police stated that the vehicle was stolen in Chicago and later found in Chicago. Police have since identified the vehicle through surveillance footage.
