Victim of driving aggression incident in Broken Arrow loses leg and recovers

By John Dobberstein, Editor

The family of a Broken Arrow car accident victim is trying to raise money for the man’s medical expenses after a lengthy hospital stay.

Jeff Crosson lost his right leg last week when another driver struck him near a restaurant in Broken Arrow after an argument broke out between the two on the road.

Crosson, who lives in Broken Arrow, was getting out of his truck at Slim Chickens when the teenage driver intentionally crashed his sedan into Crosson with such force that his right leg was immediately severed on impact and he was trapped between the two vehicles.

The teen was later tracked down and arrested after police used images of his car captured by the restaurant’s video cameras, as well as tips from social media and witnesses. The teen is reportedly charged with assault with a deadly weapon and hit-and-run from an injury crash.

A Slim Chickens employee and a local police officer used their belts to create a tourniquet so Crosson could be taken to the hospital where he underwent life-saving surgery.

Crosson’s leg could not be stitched back together, but he has been discharged from intensive care after numerous operations and is in good spirits given the circumstances.

“We are truly grateful to the strangers who rushed to his side and to the medical staff at St. Francis Hospital,” said Crosson’s brother Chris.

“Many of you know Jeff, but for those of you who don’t know him, he is a stranger who instantly becomes a friend. He radiates kindness and would help anyone willingly and without hesitation,” said Chris. “He was a truck driver for PODS and I’m sure he made the day of every person he interacted with on a daily basis.”

Crosson’s family – including his wife Wendy, their two adult children Kylie and Max, and their grandson Reid – have put much of their lives on hold to be with Jeff in the hospital.

“We know Jeff has a long road ahead of him, with many expenses that his insurance doesn’t cover – from the type of prosthetics he needs to intensive physical therapy,” the GoFundMe organizer said. “We hope to help Jeff and his family during this difficult time.”

“We are grateful to those who have offered their help. We thank you for keeping Jeff and his family in your thoughts and prayers. This past week has reminded our family to cherish life with loved ones and to be safe on the road.”
