Arrest made following fatal shooting at Buckhead nightclub

Atlanta police have arrested a suspect in last month’s shooting at a Buckhead nightclub that left two people dead.

Karanji Reese, 21, turned himself in to police on June 5, according to authorities. He is charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Police said a “physical argument” escalated into gunfire early May 12 at Elleven45 Salon at 2110 Peachtree Road. Officers found six people shot at the scene.

Two people were killed in the shooting, Mari Creighton, 21, and Nakyris Ridley, 20.

Police said in a news release that Ridley was the intended target of the shooting and that the other victims were bystanders.

The other four victims were taken to hospital. Their lives are not in danger.

The parents of Albany State University student Mari Creighton filed suit this week against the owners and managers of Elleven45 for wrongful death and negligence in their daughter’s death, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

The city of Atlanta also filed a lawsuit last month in Fulton Superior Court to try to shut down the nightclub.

The nightclub’s owners agreed to close their doors for 60 days following the shooting, according to a social media post.

“Despite smears from the Buckhead community and the media, in the face of accusations based on bias and misinformation, we will remain closed as we continue to work with the Atlanta Police Department to bring justice to all those who were affected,” the post reads in part. .
