Gunman attempts attack on US embassy in Lebanon

A gunman exchanged fire with Lebanese soldiers outside the US embassy near Beirut on Wednesday. The attacker, a Syrian national, was shot and hospitalized, the Lebanese military said. No soldiers were injured. The attempted attack came amid rising tensions between Israel and the Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas.
