Padres’ Tucupita Marcano under investigation for gambling | Don’t miss this

San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano is under investigation for allegedly violating MLB’s gambling policy. Marcano is accused of betting on Pittsburgh Pirates games while on the team’s injured list last year, according to the Wall Street Journal. “We are aware of an ongoing investigation by Major League Baseball regarding a case that occurred when the player in question was a member of another organization and not affiliated with the San Diego Padres. We will not comment further until the investigative process is complete,” the San Diego Padres said. Marcano faces a lifetime ban from the sport if found guilty. Four minor league players are also accused of gambling. MLB rules state that players can bet on sports other than diamonds; however, gambling is prohibited in sports such as baseball and softball. The law also states that a player faces a one-year suspension if he bets on other teams’ games, but is banned for life if he bets on his own team. Marcano was signed by San Diego from Venezuela in 2016 before being traded to the Pirates in 2021 and returning to the Padres in 2023.
