20 years in prison for sexual abuse of a 6-year-old girl in Kalaburagi

The Additional District and Sessions Court (POCSO Special) at Kalaburagi sentenced Moulasab, a resident of Taj Sultanpur in Kalaburagi district of Karnataka, to 20 years’ imprisonment for sexually abusing a six-year-old girl.

According to prosecutor Shanthaveer Tuppad, the convicted man lured the minor with the offer of chocolate and brought her to his home, where he sexually abused her on August 25, 2023.

Following a complaint by the child’s parents, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered and Circle Inspector of Police (Aland) Mahadev Panchamukhi filed a chargesheet, confirming the allegations made in the complaint.

Justice Yamanappa Bammanagi heard both the parties, examined the witnesses and found the accused guilty of the crimes mentioned in the chargesheet. He sentenced the offender to 20 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, in addition to five years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 363 (Punishment for kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code. The sentences will be served concurrently.

The judge ordered the Legal Services Authority to pay compensation of Rs 700,000 to the victim within one month of the verdict.
