“Suspend!” Marjorie Taylor Greene is slammed by GOP leader at hearing with Dr. Fauci

Democrats demanded that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) delete her words after she refused to refer to former National Institutes of Health director Anthony Fauci as a “doctor.”

The conflict arose on Monday during a House Oversight Committee hearing on the origins of COVID-19.

“Do the American people deserve to be abused like this, Mr. Fauci?” Greene asked. “Because you are not a doctor, you are Mr. Fauci in my few minutes.”

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) interrupted, saying Greene had violated committee rules.

“Mr. Chairman, can we deprive a doctor of his medical dignity in the spirit of ethics just because we don’t want him to be a doctor?” Raskin said.

“Yes, because in my day that man didn’t deserve a license,” Greene replied. “In fact, he should be stripped of it and sent to prison.”

“Suspend!” Republican Chairman Brad Wenstrup (Ohio) said to Greene. “The lady should recognize the doctor as a doctor.”

“Is this what we have become?” complained one Democrat. “Is this what we have become? No decency.”

“It is completely unacceptable to deny Dr. Fauci, who is here and is a respected member of the medical community, his title,” he added. “And that is actually a personal attack on his character.”

“And I instructed them to address him as a doctor,” Wenstrup noted.

“I don’t address him as a doctor,” Greene said.

“We should have to delete their words,” demanded one Democratic member.

“Mr. Chairman, I want to raise a point of order,” Greene interrupted. “Because you accused us of worshipping President Trump. We do not worship President Trump.”

“The lady will adjourn the hearing!” Wenstrup demanded. “The rule of writing down words does not apply to witnesses. Again, I do not approve of the words.”

“The Chair rejects the gentleman from Maryland’s point of order, but asks members to show all other members the respect they are due and to refrain from rhetoric that could be construed as an attack on the motives or character of another member or the witness,” he added.

This allowed Greene to continue.

“You belong in prison, Dr. Fauci,” she said.
