Man arrested for cheating at fishing competition

On May 23, law enforcement officers from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in Sabine Parish arrested a Pollock man for alleged bass fishing violations.

Agents arrested 38-year-old Aaron Moreau for cheating in a fishing contest.

Tournament directors at the Big Bass Splash in Toledo Bend contacted agents because one of the competitors put lead weights in a fish he caught and used for weigh-in on May 17.

When agents arrived at Toledo Bend, they found that Moreau had placed 2.59 pounds of lead weights in a fish he was using to weigh it and then fled the scene.

Shortly thereafter, agents were able to obtain an arrest warrant for him. Moreau turned himself in to LDWF agents on May 23 and was taken to the Sabine Parish Detention Center.

Cheating in fishing competitions can result in a fine of up to $3,000 and one year in prison.

Agents involved in the case are Captain Trey Mason, Lt. John Volentine, Sergeant Derek Ware, Corporal Dustin Nash, Corporal Ryan Durand, Senior Agent Michael Thacker, Agent Logan Laffoon and Agent Lane Devillier.
