Illiterate man rapes seven tribal students using AI voice-changing tool and is arrested

MP Crime News: A former factory worker from Madhya Pradesh has been arrested for raping at least seven tribal students using a voice-changing app. The accused, identified as Brajesh Kushwaha, is an illiterate man who committed a series of crimes using the technology. Disguised as a college teacher, Kushwaha contacted students from Sidhi district and promised to help them find scholarships.

Kushwaha spoke in a fictitious female voice and told the students to go to deserted areas. There he would send a man on a motorcycle to take them to his house. Once there, Kushwaha himself arrived. He wore a helmet to conceal his identity and took the students to a nearby forest where he raped them.

Survivors have told police that the only identifying feature of their attacker was the fact that he always wore gloves. This detail eventually led authorities to Kushwaha, who had suffered burns while working at a rolling mill in Maharashtra.

“A woman approached us and said that a man had raped her after luring her to a deserted area on the pretext of helping her get a scholarship. After our investigation, we identified Brajesh Kushwaha, who was arrested. He told us that he used a mobile phone app to change his voice into that of a woman,” said Inspector General of Police Mahendra Sikarwar, according to the NDTV report.

Kushwaha was arrested on Saturday along with three alleged accomplices and the Sidhi district administration has since demolished his house using a bulldozer.

Cyber Cell has also issued an alert warning the public about the possible misuse of voice-changing apps, a stark reminder of the need to be vigilant in the face of the evolving technological threat.
