Bodycam shows arrest of man who attacked Muslim state lawmaker outside prayer service in 2023

Hartford police released body camera footage of the moment they arrested a man who attacked a state representative outside a Muslim prayer service last summer.

In the footage, Andrey Desmond appears combative but also confused as officers arrest him.

The attack occurred in June 2023 after Rep. Maryam Khan, a Democrat from Windsor, attended a service celebrating the Eid al-Adha holiday at the XL Center Arena in Hartford along with about 4,000 other people.

Last month, Desmond pleaded guilty to attempted sexual assault of Rep. Khan outside the XL Center in Hartford.

Under the plea agreement, Desmond will serve five years in prison and 16 years on special probation.

Records show Desmond has a long history of mental illness in New York.
