Texas Severe Storm and Tornado Alert: These are the affected areas today, May 16th

The state of Texas continue to experience storms, like The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning and a Tornado Warning in several parts of the region.

According to the NWS, severe thunderstorms are defined as “storms that can produce hail of one inch or more or wind gusts of more than 55 mph.” Storms also cause dangerous tornadoes, lightning and flash floods.

Which areas in Texas are under severe storm warnings?

The NWS has reported that there is a high risk (level 4 out of 4) of excessive rain across portions of East Texas this Thursday. Added to this are the torrential rains Flash flooding is expected. For this reason, some parts of the state are also under a Flood monitoring and warning.

In the event of a severe storm, it is recommended to move to a safe location. Damage from wind or hail is possible. Therefore, stay away from windows or doors with glass panes. It is also advisable to take your pets with you when seeking refuge.

If you are under a tornado warning, go to your basement, a safe room, or an indoor area away from windows. Don’t forget your pets.
