One dead, five injured in three-vehicle collision in Spartanburg County

COWPENS, S.C. – One person is dead and five others were taken to the hospital after a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 85 Saturday evening.

It happened around 8 p.m. on I-85 North near mile marker 81, about four miles south of Cowpens, South Carolina.

Officials said a 2019 Ford F-650, a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup and a 2015 Mazda 6 were all traveling north on I-85.

The Dodge and Mazda vehicles were slowing due to traffic when the Ford struck the Mazda. After the initial collision, the Mazda then collided with the Dodge pickup.

There were five passengers in the Mazda. One died at the scene of the accident and the four others were taken to hospital.

The Ford driver was injured and also taken to hospital.

The Dodge driver and passenger were not injured in the accident.

This collision is currently under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
