Severe storms on Friday in South Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Heavy rain and lightning prompted PGA Tour officials to suspend the second round of the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in south Charlotte. The fast-moving area of ​​rain is moving south and east from Uptown Charlotte toward Matthews and Monroe.

While a few severe thunderstorms earlier in the day produced hail across South Carolina on Friday, the threat to Quail Hollow Club was mostly limited to heavy rain and possible lightning. PGA officials can stop play if lightning strikes within eight miles of the course.

WCNC Charlotte Brad Panovich wants communities, particularly those in South Carolina, to be alert for possible severe weather until Friday at 9 p.m.

Hail had accumulated in Chesterfield as a result of the storms. A photo of the hail was shared with Panovich on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
