BACK TO SCHOOL: Emancipation Park hosts back-to-school fairs

HOUSTON (KIAH) – As summer comes to a close, families are preparing for back-to-school. Organizations across the Houston area have organized events to help kids prepare for the upcoming school year, including the Children’s Museum Houston, which is hosting free Family Nights on Thursdays where mandatory vaccines for children ages 6 months to 18 years are offered free of charge.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire will partner with Shell to host a back-to-school party on Saturday, August 3, where kids can receive new backpacks and cool school supplies donated by several local businesses.

The Emancipation Park Conservancy is now joining the movement. The organization will host TWO back-to-school fairs: one for teachers and one for students. Teachers will be able to get free supplies for their classroom, snacks, drinks, and a chance to network with other teachers. During this time, students will be able to get a backpack and clean shoes. Shoes are being distributed on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited availability.
