Two children killed in mass stabbing by teenagers at Taylor Swift event: police

Two children are dead and several others remain in critical condition in hospital after a stabbing during a Taylor Swift dance and yoga class in the United Kingdom on Monday, July 29, authorities said.

At a press conference on Monday, Merseyside Police Chief Serena Kennedy confirmed the deaths of two children. She said nine other children were injured and six were in critical condition. Kennedy added that two adults were also in critical condition.

Officers responded to a property on Hart Street in Southport, a coastal town about 20 miles north of Liverpool, after receiving multiple reports of a stabbing at around 11.50am on Monday 29 July, Merseyside Police said in a statement.

Police confirmed that a 17-year-old from Cardiff had been arrested in connection with the stabbing. Kennedy told the press conference that he had been taken into custody on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Kennedy confirmed during the press conference that the children were attending an event at a dance school related to Taylor Swift when the suspect entered the venue armed with a knife and attacked the group.

“We believe the injured adults were bravely trying to protect the children who were attacked,” Kennedy said.

Authorities said the motive remained unclear and the attack was not classified as terrorist.
