Serious incident in Bath city centre after ‘chemical attack’

Serious incidents occur in Bath city centre in connection with a possible chemical weapons attack.

At around 2.30pm today (Monday), emergency services were called to an incident on Stall Street.

A woman is said to have approached people with a bag, causing some people to become ill.

According to witnesses, some people were stripped completely naked, put into protective suits and put in the back of ambulances.

The emergency services were first on the scene and alerted Avon and Somerset Police at 3.08pm.

According to locals, more than 20 emergency vehicles are in use – including 14 ambulances.

A police statement said: “Emergency services are responding to an incident in Bath.

“We have not received any further reports of discomfort.

As a precautionary measure, the emergency services wear protective clothing.

“We work locally with the South Western Ambulance Service and Avon Fire And Rescue Service and have well-rehearsed plans for responding to such incidents.”

A witness said he saw members of the public being treated at the scene of the accident.

They said: “They wrapped a woman in blue tarps and apparently hosed her down.”

“She must have been told to take off her clothes because when she came out she was wearing a large orange suit that covered her body.

“She was then taken to the ambulance, accompanied by what I believe was a paramedic wearing a protective suit and a breathing apparatus.”
