In half of the urban areas, the gas supply will remain interrupted for 24 hours

Gas supply was cut off in half of Karachi for 24 hours on Sunday. Citizens will technically have to live with a gas supply disruption for 31 hours as the SSGC shuts off gas supply at 10pm daily. According to a Sui Southern spokesperson, the disruption, which affects both residential and industrial customers, was due to works on the transmission pipeline.

The spokesperson said the affected areas include Surjani Town, Manghopir, Qasba Town, Orangi, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, FB Area, Gulberg, Buffer Zone, Site Industrial Area, Baldia, Ittehad Town, Kemari, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Ahsanabad, Janjal Goth and the surrounding areas of Super Highway.

Gas supply has been suspended from 5:00 am on July 28 and will continue till 5:00 am on July 29 (Monday). Earlier, in a significant development, Mari Petroleum Company successfully discovered new gas reserves from five wells in Sindh. The company completed testing, production and transfer of an additional 3 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD). This development was announced after filing detailed reports with the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

According to Mari Petroleum, the natural gas produced from the Ghazij gas field is now being supplied to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL). In this context, it is pertinent to mention that criminals blew up a 24-inch diameter Sui gas pipeline, resulting in disruption of gas supply in various areas, including Quetta. The damage caused by the explosion led to a complete suspension of gas supply.
