“I explored my sexuality to see if there were any hints of gayness or bisexuality”

Robert Sheehan explored his sexuality “to see if there were any tendencies toward homosexuality or bisexuality.”

The 33-year-old actor admitted that he experimented with other men to find out if he was gay or bisexual, but after “a few tries” he decided it was “not for me.”

Robert told Independent.ie: “I explored my sexuality just to see if there were any gay or bisexual angles, but it wasn’t really for me. I tried it a few times though.”

Robert also admitted that he had not been a good partner in the past and was guilty of “selfishness.”

He said, “Absolutely. I tend to be quite selfish in relationships sometimes.”

When asked if he ever apologized to any of his ex-girlfriends, he said, “I have. It’s a good idea. It’s as much about you as it is about her, but if you’re doing a bit of spiritual housekeeping, I don’t think it can hurt to reach out.”

Robert is now in a committed relationship, but explained that fame can make things complicated.

He said: “It’s easier to meet someone when you’re famous, but harder to build a relationship with someone. Now there’s someone (significant) and it’s been an interesting learning challenge for me; a confrontation with the self and recognizing old patterns and then watching them dissolve.”

“Basically, relationships have become easier for me because I know I’m struggling with myself. Suddenly you’re five years old and you’re having the same feelings you had when your mom told you to go to bed early, and suddenly you’re playing the role of your five-year-old self, and your girlfriend is your mom, and you might hit a wall because you’re an adult. I’ve really improved in all of those things.

“(The alternative) would be not to work on it. I would slave away at it for the rest of my life and grow old the same way, and people would say, ‘Oh, that’s our Robert, moody as always, he’s a character,’ when in reality he was just a grumpy old bastard who never came to terms with who he was.”
