Kim Pegula addresses the Bills team after practice

PITTSFORD — After the third practice of training camp Friday morning, the Buffalo Bills broke from their usual midfield stretching routine … and for good reason.

Their sequence was moved to the end zone, where Kim Pegula usually watches practice from an SUV. This time, however, the players and coaches got a pleasant and emotional surprise when Bills owner Terry Pegula brought his wife into the team huddle.

It was Kim’s first such appearance since she suffered a cardiac arrest in June 2022.

“Kim’s presence has been great, we’ve seen her every day and her progress has been incredible,” left tackle Dion Dawkins said. “The fact that she was able to count 3, 2, 1 Bills! – that she did that… I’m proud of her. She’s still the Mama Bear and we’re happy to still have her.”

Quarterback Josh Allen said it was important for the Bills’ new players to see Kim interact with the team.

“I know a lot of new guys don’t know the impact she’s had on a lot of guys here, like myself,” Allen said. “We’re just happy to have her here.”

Coach Sean McDermott told the Buffalo News after practice that “everything the Pegula family has done and what they’ve been through is incredible. Their overall strength as a family is incredible. (Kim’s situation) is just a snapshot of how fragile every day is for all of us.”
