ATLANTA — Delays and cancellations are now extending into the new week for Delta Air Lines as the company continues to fully recover from Friday’s global computer systems outage.

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines was particularly hard hit by Friday’s disruptions, and delays across its global network continued through the weekend, resulting in long lines and disrupted travel routes at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Delta Flight Delays and Cancellations Updates | Monday, July 22

  • Latest data:As of 5 a.m. Monday, tracking site FlightAware reported 50 delays at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and 276 total cancellations to and from Atlanta for today. The vast majority of the cancellations, 265, are on Delta flights. So far, more flights to Atlanta (180) have been canceled than flights out of Atlanta (86).
  • Delta’s response:The airline released a new statement Sunday outlining the steps the company is taking to address travel issues. Travel waivers have been extended so far for all flights booked July 19-21, and Delta says it is covering eligible expenses for stranded travelers, including meal vouchers, hotel accommodations and ground transportation. Customers also have the right to request a refund if they cancel their reservations at delta.com/refund.
  • What you can do:Right now, if you’re one of the Delta customers stuck in limbo and still trying to get on a flight, all you can do is monitor and manage/edit your itinerary through Delta’s website or the Fly Delta app. Those systems have of course also been overwhelmed in part by the many travelers trying to access them. Delta said its hubs have been “inundated with traffic, causing intermittent performance issues” and that “Delta teams are working to stabilize these tools.”
  • Reaction: Delta has caught the attention of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who wrote on X late Sunday night: “We have received reports of ongoing disruptions and unacceptable customer service conditions at Delta Air Lines, including hundreds of complaints filed with @USDOT. I have made it clear to Delta that we will hold them to all applicable passenger protections.” The secretary went on to say that Delta must “provide prompt refunds to consumers who choose not to rebook, free rebooking for those who do, and prompt refunds for food and hotel stays to consumers affected by these delays and cancellations, as well as adequate customer service assistance.” Buttigieg directs customers to this website for air travel complaints to federal regulators.
  • Traveler’s reaction: 11Alive’s Jerry Carnes is at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport early Monday, where he spoke with passengers stuck in sticky situations. Former Georgia state Rep. Bee Nguyen also had some helpful advice for X passengers:
