Holts Summit police investigating Sunday morning shooting incident | Mid-Missouri News

Holts Summit Police are investigating a shooting incident Sunday morning near the Holts Summit Lions Club on East Hillcrest Avenue.

According to a department news release, a nearby officer heard several shots fired in the area around 1:07 a.m. When the officer arrived, he saw several people and vehicles fleeing the area.

According to initial reports, there were no victims at the scene, but a local resident reported to investigating police that a male perpetrator ran through the backyard with a gunshot wound to his foot.

A vehicle found in the parking lot had numerous bullet holes. The owner of the vehicle told police she was at the Lions Club attending a private party when she heard gunshots.

Several buildings were also damaged by the shots.

In the Lions Club parking lot, police found eleven pistol cartridges and approximately 36 rifle cartridges, several bullets and bullet fragments.

They also found small amounts of blood at the crime scene, which police said confirmed the testimony of the witness who saw the man with the gunshot wound to his foot.

While investigating the scene of the accident, police were notified of a possibly related incident on Highway 63 outside of the Holt Summit jurisdiction.

Around the same time, it was reported that a male suspect had been taken to a Columbia hospital with a gunshot wound. The suspect was contacted by a Holts Summit officer but did not provide any information.

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted at the scene of the incident. The Columbia Police Department and MSHP are working with Holts Summit Police on this investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing.
