Connor McGovern looking to continue transition to center at Bills training camp

After playing guard during his first season in Buffalo, McGovern moved to center following the departure of Mitch Morse.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — For the first time since 2019, the Buffalo Bills are working on a new starting center.

Connor McGovern replaces Mitch Morse, who started a total of 87 games and made one Pro Bowl in five seasons, replacing Josh Allen.

McGovern slides in from guard, but considers center his natural position. While his heart may feel that way, it’s been a while since McGovern has played in the middle. He played there just once during his final season at Penn State in 2018.

St. John Fisher is the perfect place to see how quick and seamless the journey home is.

There’s the mechanics of the snap with Allen, who has already said there’s a difference in that area compared to how Morse did it with McGovern.

Then there’s the communication component with the rest of the offensive line, with the center making most, if not all, of the decisions.

Fortunately, McGovern already knows most of the rest of the lineup.

The only newcomer will be his replacement at left guard. David Edwards is the early favorite, but I definitely think he can be pushed by others throughout camp.

So keep an eye out there while sliding the other on what Connor McGovern is doing at center, and if his game can support what his heart wants.
