High Point man recovering after dog attack

Rocky Brooks spent several days in intensive care after being attacked by a dog.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — A man is recovering after his sister said a dog mauled him.

Rocky Brooks spent several days in the hospital after the attack. His sister Angela Brow said he has a challenging road ahead.

“The pain he has with his mouth itself is just unbearable. I know that’s one of the reasons why they kept him in the hospital a little longer, to see if they could help him relieve some of the pain,” she said during the Pictures of Brooks show.

The images showed her brother lying in an induced coma in a hospital bed after she said she was attacked by a pit bull a week ago.

“He had to undergo emergency facial surgery. It’s hard to see him just lying there. I saw photos from before the surgery and part of his lip was missing. It looked like something out of a horror movie,” Brow explained.

Brow said her brother, Rocky Brooks, was at a friend’s house in High Point when the dog bit him on the arm and leg and then burrowed into his face.

A friend was able to save Brooks and called 911.

Brooks didn’t feel comfortable being on camera, but Brow said her brother remembered what happened.

She said a woman close to the family let her dog attack Brooks because she was angry.

“The girl who owns the dog just abandoned it after the attack, she left and took the dog with her,” she added.

High Point police said they responded to a call of a vicious animal last Sunday, but the dog and its owner were missing when they got there.

Police said it was difficult to identify the dog’s owner.

“I feel like they should do more because he was left like that after the dog attacked him. As far as I know, this is not the first time the dog has attacked someone,” Brow said. “To protect other people from attack, it must be put down.”

Brooks is out of the hospital after multiple surgeries and is on the long road to recovery.

“This is going to take years if they have to do more surgeries on his face to fix everything to a point where he’s okay with it,” Brow said.

High Point police said animal control officers were looking for clues that could lead them to the dog that attacked Brooks.
