Janitor charged with rape and kidnapping after brutal attack in North Bay

Investigators allege the man sexually abused a woman in his care and held her daughter captive at knifepoint for two hours.

MARIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — A caregiver is accused of raping an elderly woman and brutally attacking her daughter when she tried to intervene, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators allege that 23-year-old Yumi Zingkhai of Rohnert Park sexually assaulted a woman with memory problems who was in his care at her Marin County home on Sunday afternoon. According to the sheriff’s office, the woman’s adult daughter came to the house and saw what was going on. When she yelled at Zingkhai to stop, he choked her until she lost consciousness and dragged her into the kitchen, according to authorities.

When she woke up, investigators said the suspect held her captive at knifepoint for two hours and threatened to kill her if she called police. The sheriff’s office said the woman was eventually able to convince him to leave so she could call 911.

Investigators say Zingkhai returned home and told his girlfriend he was suicidal, then implied he needed to return to the victim’s house. According to investigators, his girlfriend accompanied him on the trip and attempted to call the police during the trip because she was concerned about his suicidal thoughts.

Officials allege Zingkhai took the phone and repeatedly struck his girlfriend before arriving at the first victim’s home, where officers and detectives were present. According to the sheriff’s office, he pushed his girlfriend out of the moving vehicle and attempted to flee, but was arrested at the scene.

Zingkhai was sent to prison on multiple suspicions of rape, attempted murder, elder abuse, assault, false imprisonment and domestic violence.
