“I’m really proud and happy because I love how my community can just say we’re doing this fun activity and getting out of the house and that makes me really happy.”

Open Buffalo Executive Director Franchelle Parker told 7 News reporter Yoselin Person that events like these are important for several reasons.

“We’re seeing an increase in violence in our community, so we want to let our youth know that they’re safe here and that there are resources available in the community and that they can have a good time as well,” Parker said.

And of course, this event raises awareness among many people about the importance of staying fit and healthy.

“Colors represent diversity, strength and unity,” Lewis says. “For us to be united, we need to be strong together and showcase our colors and vibrancy to the world.”

And one runner felt confident after pushing herself to come here and mingle with others.
