Sharon Hill Police Investigate String of Ring Doorbell Thefts

SHARON HILL, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — Sharon Hill Police are investigating a series of thefts of Ring doorbell cameras over the past two weeks.

They believe that the crimes caught on camera are committed by juveniles.

Video from a neighbor’s doorbell shows three teens outside a home on Woodland Avenue last Tuesday night. One of them covered his head as he approached the house to steal the doorbell camera.

Then another young person follows.

“He came, got it and just ripped it off,” Lloyd Bradley said.

Bradley said he was shocked when he saw what happened on the stored footage that night.

“I’ve been here for six years and this is the first time anything has ever happened,” Bradley said. “Nothing has ever happened here before.”

Police posted another video on Facebook of a similar incident that occurred just blocks away on Spring Street.

A neighbor said fortunately his camera was not targeted.

“I’m surprised,” said Antonio Atrisco. “I only bought this house about six months ago and was planning on moving out of Philly. Now I feel like I’m back here doing these things.”

Local residents expressed fears that this was not just a prank.

“They don’t want us or anyone else on the block to follow them or know what they’re up to,” Atrisco said.

Bradley recently installed a new camera for security, but it is harder to reach.

“The camera is not that high, but it takes a little longer to get a picture, and as soon as they try to cut the lines, the police come immediately,” Bradley said.

Bradley said he now checks his camera several times a day to make sure he is safe.

Police said if you receive a notification on your Ring app and do not recognize the person on your property, call 911 immediately.
