Tyler child killed in July 4th shooting in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Texas (KETK) – Tyler ISD Head Start announced Wednesday that they are mourning the loss of one of their Head Start students who died from gun violence on July 4th.

“Please pray for her family during this very difficult time,” Tyler ISD Head Start said.


According to reports from NBC affiliate Dallas NBC5Ivy Pierce, 4, and her sister Wynter Thouston, 1, were among five people shot on July 4 while in the area to watch fireworks. Both girls died from their injuries.

Fort Worth Police detectives told NBC 5 that the shooting began after an argument broke out between two people and someone started shooting.

Kanard Murphy was arrested on felony charges against multiple people following the shooting and is being held in the Tarrant County Jail on $1 million bail.

A GoFundMe was created to support the family of the two deceased young girls.
