Kaduna health workers suspend warning strike

Health workers in Kaduna State have suspended their five-day warning strike that began on Monday after they went on strike to demand improvements in their social benefits.
Their demands were set out in a communiqué signed in Kaduna on Wednesday by Nassa Yashi, the State Secretary of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).

He said: “The health workers had an intensive and meaningful discussion with the government which resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).”
“The suspension is also to create space for further negotiations and to wait for the government to fulfil its part of the MoU. The strike is hereby suspended and the workers are expected to resume their normal duties immediately.
“The State Administrative Council (SAC) sincerely appreciates your massive support and determination in making this struggle to improve our welfare a great success.”

Yashi confirmed their willingness to advocate for their members and stressed that they would do so impartially and without bias.

“Remember, this is a suspension, which means that if the promises made are not kept, we will resume industrial action at the appropriate time,” he added.
