Russian drone attacks in Ukraine leave six dead and 16 injured overnight

Russia has launched long-range drone strikes on Ukrainian territory – often with the aim of disrupting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and crippling that sector.

According to regional authorities, six people were killed and 16 injured in Russian attacks in Ukraine in the past 24 hours.

Moscow launched 20 Shahed combat drones overnight, but Ukrainian air defenses shot down 14 of them, according to Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk.

Local media reports that the drones were launched from the Russian port city of Primorsko-Akhtarsk in occupied Crimea.

According to regional governor Oleh Kiper, the port of the southern Ukrainian city of Odessa was also hit in the attack.

Two men were killed and another was seriously injured. Warehouses, trucks and a ship were also reportedly destroyed.

Others were killed in Donetsk, Kharkiv and Kherson after attacks by Russian forces, according to Ukrainian media.

Russia has also targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. After a drone attack on a power plant in Rivne Oblast, some areas were without electricity, according to state energy company Ukrenergo.

Russia has carried out extensive drone strikes on Ukrainian territory, often Focus on energy infrastructure to the collapse of this sector.

Ukraine has appealed to his Western allies for more air defence systems to defend against these attacks and Attacks on the civilian population.

Ukrainian rescue services said 23 fires were set in the Kherson region in the past 24 hours as a result of Russian attacks.
