71-year-old man confesses to raping 12-year-old girl and awaits court verdict

A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday remanded 71-year-old Dumashi Sabo in custody after he pleaded guilty to raping a 12-year-old girl in Lagos.

Chief Justice Patrick Adekomaiya issued the order after Sabo pleaded guilty.

Adekomaiya adjourned the case to July 15 for fact-finding and judgment.

The prosecution counsel, Insp. Ayodele Adeosun, said that the accused committed the offence on July 1 at about 2pm at Zongo, Seme Border, Badagry, Lagos.

Adeosun said the accused had raped the girl.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes the provisions of sections 261 and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
