Logansport teenager found safe, parents arrested after boy issued Silver Alert

The parents of a Logansport teenager whose disappearance sparked a two-state manhunt were taken into custody early Wednesday morning and the boy was found unharmed after a SWAT team executed search and arrest warrants at their home, police said.

Daniel T. Muir, 40, is charged with obstruction of justice and domestic violence. According to multiple media outlets, Muir is a former NFL defensive tackle who played four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.

His wife, 38-year-old Kristin Muir, was also charged with obstruction of justice (a Level 6 felony), according to a news release from the Indiana State Police Peru Field Office.

On July 3, at approximately 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time, the ISP SWAT team executed search and arrest warrants, both issued by Cass Circuit Court, at the Muirs’ residence in the 1700 block of West US 24 in Logansport.

During the operation, Daniel and Kristin Muir and their son were discovered at home. The 14-year-old boy was the subject of a Silver Alert on June 28. Daniel and Kristen Muir were arrested without incident and taken to the Cass County Jail.

The teenager, who appeared unharmed and well, was placed in the care and custody of Cass County Child Protective Services, police said.

According to police, the ordeal began on June 16, when the boy, whose name the Post-Tribune is not naming because he is under 18, left a family member’s home in Ohio with his mother, Kristen Muir, in a white 2015 Chevrolet Suburban owned by the Servant Leader’s Foundation in Kokomo.

Shortly after leaving the house, Garfield Heights, Ohio police stopped the vehicle, but the boy was not inside.

On or about June 18, 2024, the Cass County Department of Child Services asked ISP investigators to investigate allegations of domestic violence against the teenager, which allegedly occurred at the child’s home in the 1700 block of West US Highway 24 in Logansport, a property owned by the Servant Leader’s Foundation.

The Servant Leader’s Foundation is a nonprofit religious organization reportedly affiliated with Straitway Truth Ministries in Tennessee, which some media outlets have labeled a possible cult. Daniel Muir, who played defensive tackle for the Indianapolis Colts and other NFL teams, is listed as the pastor and leader of the church in Indiana’s Goshen, according to the Straitway website.

While the police continued their search for the boy, they had initial contact with his parents and were able to visit them at their home.

On the afternoon of June 28, police issued a Silver Alert for the boy after the Muirs had agreed earlier that day to bring their son to a meeting with ISP investigators at the Peru Post.

According to police, the couple had agreed to meet with police at noon Eastern Time that same day, but around 11 a.m. the Muirs backed out of the agreement, indicating a lack of cooperation.

Police received assistance from the Logansport Police Department, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing and state police are urging the public to report any information they have related to the incident involving the boy to either the Peru Post at 800-382-0689 or by calling 911.
