First weather warning day: Extreme heat, strong storms

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Dangerous heat is forecast for the rest of the week, with some strong storms possible.

Excessive heat backflow

Heat and humidity return quickly today, with highs in the 90s under mostly sunny skies. Heat index readings will be back in the triple digits, if not higher, across the state this afternoon.

Tonight will be very warm and humid, with lows of between 25 and 25 degrees Celsius tomorrow morning.

Wednesday afternoon will be even more humid, with daytime temperatures between 35 and 40 degrees. The heat index will be above 40 degrees in some places on Wednesday. Most, if not all, of Wednesday will remain dry, but I can’t completely rule out a late-day thunderstorm, especially northwest of Nashville. Those who see a thunderstorm should expect heavy rain and gusty winds if a storm develops.

On Independence Day on Thursday, we must focus not only on the heat and humidity, but also on the risk of rain showers and thunderstorms moving in during the afternoon. Highs are still expected to be above 30 degrees, with a heat index of over 38 degrees for the day.

With many of us planning a day outdoors, keep an eye on the skies for any heavy thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. Not everyone will experience a thunderstorm, but for those who do, any thunderstorm can bring very heavy rain and even gusty winds.

LATE WEEK AND WEEKEND

This chance of rain will continue on Friday and Saturday. Both days will be hot and humid as a cold front remains nearby. Highs on Friday will be just under 35 degrees, while highs on Saturday will be in the low 35 degrees to just under 35 degrees.

On Sunday, drier weather is expected with maximum temperatures around 33 degrees and partly cloudy skies. On Monday, isolated thunderstorms are possible with maximum temperatures around 33 degrees.
