Recall alert: Infiniti M35, M 56, Q50, Q70, Q70L

Infiniti has recalled 7,222 vehicles because their drive shafts can break, which can lead to a complete loss of drive power. The recall only affects 2-wheel drive versions of the:

Infiniti told government safety regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA): “Due to a change in supplier specification, certain Infiniti vehicles may contain a driveshaft with reduced fatigue strength.” Over time, the shaft can break due to the stresses of daily use.

With a broken driveshaft, the vehicle won’t move when you want it to, and it can move even when you don’t want it to. Engine power won’t be transferred to the wheels, and the car won’t be able to go into park mode.

According to Infiniti, drivers will not receive a warning when the problem occurs.

The dealer will replace the driveshaft free of charge. Infiniti says the repair “can take up to an hour,” but we advise owners to be prepared for their car to be at the dealership for a full day.

Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. Although automakers try to reach every owner and ask them to bring the vehicle in for repairs, they rarely reach everyone. Millions of cars on American roads are subject to free repairs under the recall. Check the simple VIN tool in our recall center to see if your car is one of these vehicles.
