The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is conducting an investigation into an in-custody death that occurred early Saturday morning in the medical wing of the correctional facility.

At approximately 6:24 a.m. Saturday morning, Kevin Mandujano Garcia (born 8/2/1990) of Sarasota was found unconscious and not breathing in a recovery cell in the medical wing of the facility. Correctional officials notified medical personnel and attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead a short time later. No significant signs of trauma or injury were noted and the SCSO is awaiting the results of the coroner’s autopsy.

This remains an open investigation by the SCSO Criminal Investigation Division.
