1 driver dead after wrong-way accident on I-84

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A man was killed Saturday morning when another driver traveling the wrong way on I-84 collided head-on with his vehicle, officials said.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m., Portland police officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash on westbound I-84 at Northeast 162 Avenue.

When they arrived, they found both drivers injured in a head-on collision after one of them reportedly drove the wrong way on the westbound lane.

The westbound driver was taken to hospital but soon succumbed to his injuries.

The wrong-way driver was also taken to hospital, but the extent of his injuries is not yet known, authorities said.

All lanes of westbound I-84 between Northeast 181st Avenue and I-205 were closed for the duration of the investigation.

No further information has been released so far.
