47-year-old Gibraltar man sentenced to 12 years in prison for raping and imprisoning a woman

A Gibraltar man has been jailed for wrongfully imprisoning a woman and raping her twice.

The 47-year-old from Prince Edwards Road, who is identified by his initials EG, was found guilty of two counts of rape by majority verdict in September and October 2019.

He was sentenced to a total of 12 years and six months.

He was also found guilty of false imprisonment for locking the woman in an apartment for three days and taking away her mobile phone.

A man from Gibraltar was sentenced to 12 years and six months in prison for two counts of rape and deprivation of liberty

Presiding Judge Anthony Dudley said EG was in “complete denial” of his crimes and had “expressed neither remorse nor remorse for his actions”.

EG was described as having a lifelong and extensive criminal history dating back 30 years to 1994.

His criminal record includes “many convictions” for violence, grievous bodily harm with intent, drunkenness and disturbing the peace, harassment

Conduct, disorderly or indecent conduct while intoxicated, brawling, aiding and abetting a crime and drug offenses.

The judge added that the victim had suffered “serious psychological harm” as a result of the incidents.

The perpetrator did not react to the verdict.
